Welcome to the Project Bread Blog

Project Bread

Hello everyone! If you have stumbled onto this blog, that would probably mean that you are interested in what this organization has to offer. Well for starters, this is Project Bread. Project bread is responsible for the Walk For Hunger which happens every year in the first sunday in May. The Walk For Hunger takes place in Boston Massachusetts and has been around since 1963. The walk consists of a 20 mile walk starting at the Boston commons, and continues through Brookline, Watertown, Newton, Cambidge, and other parts of Boston as well. Each year, the volunteers from around the state of Massachusetts, and other parts of New England increases in numbers. Last year according to Project Bread's website, there were 40,000 participants, 2,000 volunteers, and 50,000 individual donors! Wow thats a lot of success. Besides the Boston Marathon, The walk has been known as the largest public gathering the city has. With the numbers they get every year, it's hard to deny that.

The last two years of high school, I decided to take part in the Walk For Hunger. At first, I did it for a social event because a large majority of my friends were doing it so signed up the night before. The year later, I joined Student Council and helped put the team together for my school to join the walk for a second year. Sure the walk is grueling, and long, and you feel like you are going to die form exhaustion afterwards, but the feeling of satisfaction in knowing that you made a difference in the battle against hunger makes all the difference. The reason why I chose to do my blog about this organization is because it meant a lot to me when I was in high school, and now on the cusp of graduating college, I wanted to see how the organization was doing. Also, I thought it would be a great opportunity to for others to see what this organization is all about and maybe one day participate in the walk. Look forward to more pictures and posts about Project Bread and The Walk For Hunger.
